• willing to take medication through injection
• being a non-smoker
• no drinking throughout the pregnancy
• no sexually transmitted diseases
• no history of mental illness. Some agencies include depression if it has been treated by drugs.

Meet with an Agency

With locations in Nashville, Chattanooga, Knoxville and Memphis, most surrogates will need to meet with an agency to match the surrogate with a couple and begin the treatments required to become a surrogate. At this point, you will go through some physical and mental tests to confirm you are eligible to become a surrogate mother. Tests include a general physical to check your health, a detailed history of your health and those of your immediate family, a detailed history of your previous pregnancies and mental health screenings. Generally, a traditional surrogate will go through more testing than a gestational surrogate.
